Motorola RAZR V3m Pink Phone (Verizon Wireless, Phone Only, No Service)

My wife got this phone on the Verizon network and it worked great for about 2 months. After that, she started having problems. The main problems were that when making a call, after hitting SEND, the phone would either freeze up or would shout off. Either way, the only way she could get the phone to work again was to take the battery out and put it back in.
We took the phone to Verizon, and they did several software updates, none of which fixed the problem. We had the phone replaced 4 times by Verizon (that is, they could never get the phone to work and would just give us a new one). Same problem with all of the phones. I have talked with several friends that have RAZR phones, and they all have had problems with them.
Battery life was also very poor. Verizon said that they were trying to maximize battery life with software updates (the same ones I mentioned before). None of these updates fixed the battery life either.
I am happy to say that our phone problems are now over. Verizon finally gave up on replacing our RAZR's and allowed my wife to do an early upgrade. She bought the Samsung A990 (which has a built in 3.2 megapixel digital camera). She has had this phone for 2 months and far outshines the RAZR.
Overall, I would highly avoid getting a RAZR. If you are wanting a slim phone and have Verizon, I recommend the LG VX8600.
I've had this phone for 4 months now and I think it's pretty good. I don't use the Vcast and haven't bought any music so I don't know about that.
Pros:
Great reception, I'm in Ohio and I called California with only 2 bars and could hear great.
Great picture quality, I love the zoom.
Durable, I've dropped it a couple times and it's still fine.
Easy to use menu, my mom has the same phone and know nothing about technology and has no problem using it.
Large keypad.
Loud ringtones, even on the low.
Long battery life, I can go almost a week without charging.
Though I love the phone, I have had a few problems.
Cons:
Sometimes certain buttons don't work. If I turn off the phone and turn it back on it works again. This might be because of it hanging off of my belt loop in 15 degree weather.
Voicemail. When I call to check it, it tells me to leave a message.
Wrong number calls. Almost immediately after I got the phone people called for whoever had my number before me. Including persistent creditors who didn't believe that I wasn't who they were looking for.
Quiet ringtones, I know I listed loud ones as a pro but the one my mom uses is really quiet even on the loudest setting.
I almost passed on this phone because of all of the bad reviews here but I love it and am glad I ignored them.
I upgraded to the Motorola RAZR V3m back in July 2006. It was a vast improvement (true tones, camera, video, larger screen, voice activation, etc.) over my previous phone. And to top it off, it did not cost me a dime since I renewed my contract for two more years. From the very first day, I was tickled pink (no pun intended...okay I did intend it) about the features available with this phone. Do I use them all? No. I only really cared about getting a phone that allowed for true tones and had a camera. A few weeks into my new phone, the battery started losing power too quickly. I took it in to Customer Service and they replaced the battery. Problem solved. I am satisfied with the picture quality of the camera. If I want pictures with high resolution, I will whip out my digital camera instead. I only use the ringtones (vs. ringbacks) and hearing my favorite artists actually singing out of my phone each time I receive a call puts a smile on my face.
DO NOT buy this phone unless you're willing to endure continuous calls from Verizon Wireless if you try to close your account.
Last week, shortly after telling Verizon's sales person I was switching to T-Mobile because their Customer Service is a disaster, I began getting three to five calls each day that hang up as soon as I answer. Doing a *69 revealed they were coming from 1-800-470-0768, Verizon Wireless' number. Calling a supervisor (Jasen) resulted in an apology and him putting me on their Do Not Call list, which he says won't take effect for 30 days. He also said this is a "known problem with Verizon's auto-dialer" for which Verizon has no solution. It's only noon and so far today I've gotten three calls from them, two hangups and another sales pitch to upgrade my phones and stay with Verizon Wireless.
I'd rather stick needles in my eyes.
The phone looks really cute, but it freezes all the time and always has random malfuctions. Battery life is really short. Do not buy this phone!
I know everyone is buying the RAZR phones because they are 'cool' compared to your average cell phone. But I cannot stress enough that this phone is a bad buy.
My experience has been that:
- It loses its charge very quickly, that is my main complaint. Especially if you leave it on in an area that it doesn't get reception in (ex: the subway) it seems to drain itself. If I unplug it from the charger in the morning and it goes through normal (if not minimal) usuage, it will be dead by the end of the day.
- The keypad is a pain.
- The camera isn't very good.
- When setting the phone to 'alarm only' it still lets calls that have been set to their own ringtone through.
- Some of the settings are difficult to figure out.
So, that's what I have to say about the phone. I would have rather just kept my not-as-stylish phone than have this one. So what if it wasn't hip and with it? It was much more reliable. But, the hype got to me, I wish I wasn't such a sucker for the colour pink.
This is the worst phone of the more than half dozen that I've had and I'm returning it this weekend.
Pros:
-It's cute and pink.
Cons:
-I have received several messages of "Call failed" when attempting to put through calls that I've never had a problem placing in the same vicinity with my old phone.
-The phone can't ring and vibrate simultaneously when a call is coming in. It's either one or the other and the ringer is not loud enough and the vibration is not pronounced enough, so I'm always missing calls when I'm driving.
-When I had the address book transferred from my old LG, my speed dials were reassigned in some crazy, random way. In fact for each contact, EACH number was given a different speed dial number, WTF? So now I'm supposed to remember 115 speed dials? Why on earth would anyone want that? Normally, on other phones, each contact has _one_ speed dial number set at the default telephone number chosen by the user with the other numbers accessible by scrolling.
-For the life of me, I can't figure out how to reassign or delete the assigned speed dials. Several other people including a techie I know couldn't figure it out either. I shouldn't have to waste time calling customer service for this nonsense. Navigating through this basic feature should be very clear and simple.
-I'm not ecstatic over the flat keys.
-The pictures you take come out blurry and have low resolution.
Overall, this phone is a lot of hype and no substance. I'd recommend that you bypass this one. My daughter has a chocolate and the pictures are beautiful. She doesen't have any of the same problems as I do with this one.
Oh and I almost forgot to add, the user guide and verizon website are tremendous wastes of time. They really don't address use of the phone so much as the audio/video access options.
Call me old-fashioned but I'd like a phone that primarily makes and receives calls portably and conveniently. bells and whistles are nice but they should be secondary concerns, not the MAIN features of a phone.
I was spending so much time at Verizon with this ridiculous phone.
It's bad enough that the battery only lasted one day, the worst part is that it would freeze up and not let any calls go out or come in!
On another fun filled day at Verizon standing in line, the tech that helped us had 9 other razr phones piled up that they had taken in with problems just that day!
Bought an LG, no problems.
In October my plan was up and I had to have the Razr. Great. Charged it for the full 8 hours or whatever. Took it out for the day and it didn't hold a charge for more than 6 hours. And that was just with normal use - a few short phone calls, didn't take and pictures, didn't watch any vcasts. I took it back. They gave me a new one. New one didn't charge for more thn 6 hours of use either. Verizon told me that that's "just the way phones are nowadays" and to basically deal with it. I dealt with it for a few more months but had increasing problems with it - it would ring when it wasn't get a call. The alarm would go off and wouldn't stop until I took the battery out. Constantly dropping calls. Took it back yet again to Verizon, I don't want this model anymore. It sucks. Well, apparently I can't do that and the only way out is to buy a new phone at full retail price. I went to T-mobile had my number ported over and I've finally got a phone that works. It cost me a $175 cancellation fee, but that was at least cheaper than buying a new phone at full retail.
The Pros: It is a "pretty" phone, and it fits great in a back pocket. Awesome ringtones. Verizon's plans aren't too bad. You can't beat their coverage either.
When i recieved this phone for christmas, i was on vactation. it came in useful when i wanted to take pictures of my family and all the differnt things i saw. The picture quality was great, and so was being able to call who ever i wanted because its free verizon custumer to verizon custumer and because it was a holiday (weekends are free too). Also you are able to have differnt ringtones and pictures show up on the front whenever someone is calling so you dont have to sit there thinking who is 123-4567?? There picture shows up on the front screen as soon as the phone rings. Also you can record your own ringtones, such as your friend saying PICK UP YOUR PHONE !! Another cool feature is you can take videos. My friends and i had a great time video taping each other. It has great sound and quality. One annoying thing about this phone is the manual. I read through it about a million times (a great waste of my time) trying to find out things about vcast. could you download your own music? how bout is recieving text messages free?? and what about ringtones? how much does it cost? there was none of those things listed. Also it says you can have aim on your phone. how does that work? I have tried to follow all the differnt directions and none of them work. Other than the less than helpful manual this phone is great , stylish, and has great ring tones already on the phone. I really enjoy this phone!
i am 13 and got this phone for thanksgiving about 3 months ago. good things about this phone:
1. Sturdy. i have dropped it multiple times and it doesnt seem to have any damage done
2. SUPER cute color
3. really thin and can fit in my pocket or wallet easily
4. great service, i can get bars from practically anywhere
5. i love the camera option.....the pictures are so cute!!
6. u can personalize screen with wallpaper from pics u took
7. u can record things and use them as ur ringtones
8. i love that u can call people for free on the weekends!!!
bad stuff:
1. hard to press all the flat buttons
2. the red bars on the top and bottom of the screen cannot be changed!!!
3. obnoxious buzzing sound in ears
4. time goes away on the front of the phone after about a minute so u have to open up the phone all the time to see the time
5. its kind of slow and the layout of the phone is kind of complicated. who knew sound settings was in the get it now part, and not the settings part???
6. the buttons outside of the phone can easily get pressed when being jostled around in your pocket or purse causing the sound to get turned off accidentally.
all in all i think this phone is super cute and great and is perfect for a lot of things. not exactly if your looking for a real super sturdy not so cutsy sort of phone, but otherwise its adorable!!!!
probably the best thing is its size. much better than my old phone which was very chunky and would jab into my leg and look like a tumor when it was in my pocket. the razr is hardly noticable!!!
I am probably the least picky person when it comes to purchasing a cell phone. I use only the basic functions on a phone and I was still disappointed with this one. Maybe all the higher end functions make this phone worthwhile, but I doubt that I will use them. I like to use the camera on my phone for taking pictures of memorable moments when I don't have my camera with me. I didn't realize how far inferior the camera is on the RAZR compared to the phone I used to have, the Samsung A670 which I considered a pretty basic phone. The pictures are dark and the quality is aweful, with lines running through everywhere. I tried changing the picture quality and the brightness but it didn't make them any better. Too bad I'm stuck with this one for the duration of my two year contract. Not impressed.
My wife saw this "pink" cell phone on a TV show and had to have it. So, I surprised her with it. Other than the looks and size this is just a functional phone that works, so, so. But, that is all my wife is looking for, a cell phone that has a speaker which she uses for our grandkids to share conversations. She also confesses that she knows how to use the camera, but never uses it. She's happy. :)
I got it recently and love it! In regards to battery problems which everyone talks about, I just got an extended battery and I can use it for days and days without charging it. It doesn't make it that much bigger (it still fits in the pink case it comes with), and for $40-$50, it's not a bad deal. I play games on it a lot, talk, play with it, take pictures, and the battery lasts and lasts. Think of it this way, if you have this phone for the next two years, you're paying about $20 a year to never have to worry or complain about batteries. So worth it.
The phone is super cute, the ringtones sound awesome (I have classical music as my ringtone), all in all I'm pretty happy with it. The camera seems to me to be surprisingly good for a 1.3 mp cellphone camera. I would like to be able to change the colour of the red bars on the screen, and I do press the side buttons more often than I mean to. But all in all I love it!
DO NOT BUY A CELL PHONE FROM AMAZON!!!
I bought this phone on Dec 15th, they delayed my ship date from the one promised when I placed the order so I had to call them and change shipping to 2nd day so I can get it by Xmas. They charged me extra. Then after I received the phone I found out the pictures are terrible, it comes out blurry and washed out.
I called Amazon to try to get them to upgrade my phone. I was willing to pay extra. I just get the run around. Amazon blames Verizon, Verizon says call Amazon, and so on. I spent 2 days and 4 hours and got absolutely nowhere.
Now they say if I cancel I have to pay a $175 per line cancellation fee!
This is within 14 days of starting my service.
Think about it, if you have a problem with your order, would they help you? Can you even find a phone number to call them? Or do you have to trade emails back and forth? How much is your time worth?
DO NOT BUY A CELL PHONE FROM AMAZON!
I got this pink razr phone a while back and I was NOT informed that the charger plug is the same as the ear piece plug which means that you can not charge and talk while using an ear piece. This annoys me sooo much because I use my ear piece exclusively to talk and now when I get into the car or am at home, I can not charge and talk with an ear piece at the same time.
The speaker phone is not clear. When I drive and forget my earpiece at home, I have to use speaker phone and it doesn't work that well. I have to put it next to my ear. What's the point of that when it's suppose to be used "hands free". When the police pull me over, what am I going to say to him, "Sir, I'm on speaker phone."
That's about as much as I want to say about this phone. It's not that spectacular.
I'm 11 and my dad just got this phone for me. Its the greatest phone that i could ever ask for! It has tons of cool features and i love the vcast edition i have. its super skinny which i love because you don't need all the extra weight because of the phone. And it holds up to 1000 people! You can zoom in on pictures and it has red eye delete. I'm addicted to pink so this phone is great for me! People say that they break really easily but they don't! I've dropped my phone sometimes on pavement and nothing happened! Trust me you should buy this phone! It'll work wonders for anyone!
I have had this phone for about a week now and i absolutely love it!! I had heard mixed reactions about it and felt the only way I would know for myself is if I got it and that is exactly what I did. No regrets. The only thing thats bugged me is that I can't get my wallpaper to show on the external display(a friend of mine has the same phone and she could do it just fine). And also I think it is just coincidence, but sometimes after like 15 minutes of talking the phone will cut out, like there is a timer which i cant find to turn off. If anyone can help me out with these 2 things, please contact me!!.... Other then that, like i said, its amazing!!
Firstly, I need to preface this review by saying that I am not very good with electronics. When I buy a phone I care about 3 things 1) weight/size 2)clarity of voice 3) appearance. This phone got 3 out of 3!! The phone is user friendly and adorable. Therefore, I love it.
I can't relate to any of the other complaints regarding this phone. I had it for 10 months now, and it never let me down, despite dropping it twice. Yesterday, I dropped it into a puddle and it stopped working. I took it to Verizon, and they gave me a new one, with no issues at all.
It's an adorable phone, works better than another other cell phone I have ever had, and has excellent reception.
The RAZR WAS a cool phone. Verizon's firmware really sucks. It is not user friendly at all. It takes additional keystrokes to simply get to your address book to scroll for a number or to send a text message. The phone and Verizon do have great reception but that's about all I can say good about this. The memory card slot is in the battery bay so it isn't readily accessible should you wish to remove/add a card. I am happy to be with Verizon but really regret not returning the phone and trying another one.
I bought this from my service provider and have definitely enjoyed it. I do not take part in the extras that you can get like the Vcast (someone else would probably get more enjoyment out of it with the Vcast) but in spite of that have had no trouble with this phone. It is very compact and has a flat numeric pad; which I think is a great feature. I also like the way the phone book is set up and with the service provider I have and the bluetooth headset makes this phone a joy to have and use.
I would definitely recommend this phone, but I would also say if you can afford it also get the bluetooth headset and a carry case for it as well (to protect it).
Okay, well I just got my second razor yesterday and Ive only has this for 8 days. The last v3m razor that I had, froze constantly, the texting always lagged, and I wouldnt even get a texting menu anymore telling me I had a new text, the text would just pop up. So I really got mad and returned the phone yesterday, but since I got locked into taht 2 year contract thing, I had to just get a replacement. So I got a replacement, and the battery is amazing now(i only got 7 hours at the most out of my phone) and the texting is fine now, but now, it doesnt let me know when I get a new voicemail. I have to go and check my voicemail every 5 minutes to see if I have a new one. It is soo annyoing. I am never buying a razor ever again! It is the worst phone EVER! Don't even think about buying this thing! You'll just have problems after problems after problems. I can't wait to get rid of this thing.
First off I did not buy this product at [...]I bought it from the [...]. I think this phone is a really, really nice verison of the razr, being that I've had 2 other razrs (v3 and v3i). This one feels a lot more sturdy in your hand, and it doesnt feel cheap as the v3 did, while maintaining its sleek, slim look, unlike the v3x which is a lot thicker. Furthermore, the camera on this razr is far superior to the previous versions, excluding the v3x(2 megapixels). It has a 1.3 megapixel camera, but I don't really use it for the camera, its only good for those surprise moments :P. Also I've noticed that the audio quality is a lot better than the other razrs, the songs/ringtones sound a lot more crisp and rich. Also the phonebook feature is fixed, I used to hate to have to wait like 30 seconds just to get to what contact I wanted (v3), Also new to this razr, is the voice command system, you can instantly look up numbers via voice command. You can also check battery levels, and signal strength. And the pause between letters in a text message is reduced, so no more waiting 2 seconds to type "no" :). Battery life is very much improved from the other razr models probably because this is a CDMA phone instead of the normal GSM razrs. A con however is the fact that if it gets scratched you will be able to easily tell it did, but I believe they offer this phone in silver if this is an issue. If you want to get really fancy you could get a custom case designed and handmade for your phone at [..].
IF YOU BOUGHT THE VERIZON MUSIC ESSENTIALS KIT, OR THE VERIZON MOBILE OFFICE KIT, THE NEXT PARAGRAPH IS POINTLESS FOR YOU TO READ. For the rest of us who don't see giving Verizon more money on top of the phone price and service charge, read on.
As for the hacking part as one person said previously, you can use bitpim to hack this phone. If you want to put music onto it without wasting more money on that Verizon software that allows you to do so, simply find p2k phone manager, MAKE SURE IT IS THE VERSION THAT WORKS WITH CDMA PHONES OR ELSE IT WILL NOT WORK. There are some tutorials that I found useful to help you through this, and when you're done hacking and stuff, you can have a lot of bonus features that Verizon disabled, such as music/ringtone transfer with MPT(Motorola Mobile Phone Tools), wireless bluetooth transfer, disabling the ringtones that come with it, changing the outer LCD screen. If you choose to do any of these, it will void your warranty, it is not illegal however. If mobile phone tools doesn't detect this phone, you may have the same problem I did, I was running an older version of the software. Also to enable music and ringtone transfer you have to use seem edits, which can be done with p2k phone manager. See, Verizon disabled the feature by making MPT think that the phone was a v3m when in fact the software has the device drivers listed as v3mm, also if those steps dont work after reading some tutorials, you may want to select v3c as your phone model. Another thing, the cable that comes with it that you're supposed to plug you headphones into, is FOR SMALL HEADPHONES, meaning its a 2.5mm jack instead of a 3.5, so YOU NEED SPECIAL HEADPHONES TO USE THAT FEATURE. But me being me, found a way around this. I used a knife to pry off the top part with the M logo on it and got to the insides. theres a circuit board and some wires connected to the jack. I used another phone jack from one of my broken CD players I had lying around. They're exactly the same connections and size (the smaller jack and the bigger one) so I put the bigger one on top of the smaller jack and soldered it to the bottom part, if you know what you're doing this shouldn't take more than half an hour. After I was finished I used an xacto blade to carefully cut the shape of the new phone jack out(because with two of them the cover wouldn't fit, and I wanted the bigger and the smaller jack). Then I had to also cut around the little part that holds the smaller hole at the bottom as to make it fit. After this was done I used some electrical tape(mostly because I wanted the adapter to stay black not gray with duck tape) and proceeded to wrap around it. Hopefully if you want to save like 50 bucks from buying the Verizon software you will try this, but then you need to buy the memory card and that will set you back like the same price haha, but you'll have like 512 mb instead of the 128 mb that comes in the Verizon package. Best of luck to all of you, and thank you for taking the time to read this.
I hope this information has helped you, and if it did I would appreciate you rating this as helpful.
The phone as a whole is very delicate. The color comes off very easily. It has horrible battery life does not even last for one day even if you hardly use the cell phone for 10 min a day.
I got this phone three weeks ago. It has alot of very cool features- none of which can be used, however because verizon has them locked out. If you are cool with paying for every piece of music you want to easily move onto the phone, go for it. If you want to use motorola's phone tools software to keep your contacts & calendar you're SOL. Same with Bluetooth file transfer- SOL. Basically everything that would make you want this phone is blocked out. If you'll notice- in the amazon review & description, almost every feature is discussed in conjunction with a handy dandy pricey verizon tool, like v-cast. I dont need news downloaded to my phone, but I'd love to have my outlook calendar sync to it, shame that wont work... The ONE way they have it set up so you can move music without the "convenience" of buying it thru V-Cast is by using windows media- which you need a patch for because there is a known "bug" with the phone. I called tech support, and they walked me thru it, but couldnt explain why they were selling a phone with such a known bug.
I was never really bothered by the verizon branding & product pushing, until I got this phone, and realized EVERY reason I got it, were for features I wasnt "allowed" to use. I've been with VZ for 10 years, and after the rage I've felt with this phone, I'd seriously consider switching in the future.
Luckily its easy enough to crack the phone to retore SOME functionality if you're feeling up to it. If you buy the phone, spring for the insurance so if you hack it unsuccessfully, you can run it over & get a replacement...;)
**EDIT** At this point I've spent 60+ hours trying to make this stupid thing work. I cant get the phone to see the removeable memory card, I cannot take pictures, because the phone says its full, yet it will not permit me to move the pics onto the card. Go figure. There are probably 30 pictures on the phone from my friends at verizon- stupid graphics which I will never use- but cannot be deleted, they just sit there hogging up the extremely limited hard drive space. This is by far the worst phone I've purchased, and I've had at least 10 of them...
The fact that its cute & pink doesnt come close to making up for the locked out & reduced capabilities of this thing.
Why does motorola allow verizon to destroy their product??
I read a lot of reviews about the RAZR phones (from Verizon) and was considering not getting one. It didn't matter that much since the new V3 didn't come in pink, but alas now it does and I have to say, I love this phone! I've had many cell phones in my day, and truly this one isn't that groundbreaking, but I do like how slim it is, the large screen, the navigation capabilities. It works great with (my *pink*) Bluetooth. The free ring tones are excellent - which is something I read a lot of bad reviews on. I'm not used to Verizon, so it is taking a while to get used to their menu, but once I have that all worked out, it will be fine.
Also, I don't find the battery to run as low as other reviewers say. I don't listen to music or do the V cast which of course eats alot of battery time, so maybe that is the difference. I just plug it in to my *pink* car charger every couple of days while I'm driving and have never been below 3 bars.
If you are thinking about getting it, get it. I am not sorry at all - I'm actually still exited about it several weeks later.
Since purchasing cell phones I have owned probably 10 or so.
This RAZR is the only Motorala product I have purchased.
What a mistake. Every morning I get the familiar beeping
to let me know it has a low battery...yes, every morning.
After having it for about 45 days it became difficult to
hear people on the other end, even with the volume on high.
The real kicker is this, those who also own a RAZR complain to
me about the same issues...low battery life, poor sound quality.
When we've complained we get the same response, buy a
more expensive battery. Although the RAZR looks really
sleek and modern for a cell phone, my experience with it
has been a disappointment. It is a substandard piece of
equipment in comparison to other cell phones I have owned.
Good luck in your search.
