Nokia 6133 Phone (T-Mobile, Phone Only, No Service)

This is a reasonable phone features wise - but its battery life is very very poor for a Nokia.
I had owned a Motorola sometime ago, and after that experience I swore to stick to Nokia because of the powerful battery life and excellent reception. But this phone needs to be recharged everyday or else, it just switches off. This is after power saving options like no screen saver, no display wallpaper and so on. I do not use the phone for texting, internet use, radio, camera or any of the bells and whistles included. So I am pretty disappointed with the result. The voice quality in the phone is also poor, especially when compared to some of very basic Nokia phones that I have owned. I also used to charge my previous Nokia phone just once in 3 days.
Would not recommend this one.
3 replacements and nothing! The phone stops working normally after a week until you completely reset it to factory settings! It cut-off conversations, disconnects after a few minutes of conversation, the screen becomes white and one thousand other weird problems and everything with full network bar. T-Mobile had NO solution to solve this problem but offering a crappy RAZOR. From my point of view T-Mobile screwed it with MyFaves software. Do not buy it!
The phone has great screen, nice sound quality (from reset to reset).
What's great about this phone? First off, it has plenty of options and a really nice display. It has plenty of bells and whistles such as IM, games, web browsing, radio, mp3 etc. But what about the errors? It lacks the capability to turn your own mp3s into ringtones, I don't call this a huge deal but maybe some would. Also, the battery life is somewhat short on default however there is a way to double or triple it. I'm going to quote one of the other reviewers (BTW, I used these tips and they really help a lot!) "Power Saver" options (settings => main/mini disply, turn off screen saver, turn off kepyad, start-up and switch off tones etc.) in 6133, the battery started lasting around 4-5 days with moderate usage."
Considering that you can get this phone free off the web or for $100 in the store, I surely cannot complain.
CONS:
I have been in circles with T-mobile over this phone since January.
I am on my FOURTH Nokia 6133 since January and have had similar problems with all the phones. The phone has problems with reception and that causes an echo-y, Darth Vader, Chipmunk, Windtunnel sound for both caller and call receiver. I have been told everything by T-mobile that it is my account, the tower, the phone, the antenna, but all I know is that every 6th phone call will result in TERRIBLE sound quality.
I have also experienced an occasional problem with both text and picture messages locking up the phone (which is a known error in the phone)
The camera button goes off all the time.
Speakerphone is almost useless.
Battery life is not as good as advertised. I need to recharge everyday.
PROS:
Love the button to press to flip the phone.
Phone layout is great.
Good little camera
Like the built in-radio
(Sorry I don't have very helpful pros)
2 stars for style and features, -3 for whatever is causing all the audio issues.
P.S. I have used a loner phone between NOKIA 6133's and they worked fine, so it is not my coverage area...
I purchased this phone less than 6 months ago, though love that is durable and has amazing features, it is very faulty. First, you can't do to much customization to it or it will shut off. And my lastest headache, "The SIM card registation failed", it does this all day long allowing me to miss calls. I loved the phone so much when I first purchased it I recommended it to a close friend and his phone has the same problems + he screen blanked out.
I selected the Nokia 6133 after researching a number of T-Mobile phones on Amazon, CNet, etc. After reading so many rave reviews about this phone I was very disappointed with the audio volume level on the handset. On the highest volume setting I have trouble hearing most of the people who call me. The speakerphone and headphones sound fine (on my side at least). Since I'm outside the 14 day "no-questions-asked" return policy I guess I'll keep the phone, but it's still a major let-down.
I've owned the Nokia 6133 for about 1-2 weeks now. It is likely going back to T-Mobile.
- As noted earlier, the phone is crippled not to accept MP3 ringtones. It can play MP3s in the media player and accept WMA ringtones, but you cannot set MP3 ringtones. Hmmm.
- The phone does NOT have an email client, regardless of what the Amazon description says. This wouldn't be that bad except...
- The phone will not allow Java programs to access the Internet. This is the kicker. This means GMail's Java client will not work. This also means that if you try to download an actual mail client, it won't work!
Note also that the Nokia 6131 (roughly the non-US version of this phone) has all of these features. In order to get the features above on this phone, you have to pay someone to load the 6131's firmware onto it, which will likely void all warranties and lets T-Mobile get away with abusing their customers.
Unfortunately, I think the phone otherwise is really nice. It has a beautiful screen, I love the push-button flip, and its more usable than most phones out there. However, in my opinion, it is inexcusable that T-Mobile has done this to its customers.
Speakerphone works great but the sound quality while on normal mode isn't very clear.
Camera is great but the like another person wrote, the buttons on the side is very inconvienent. You often find yourself pressing it by accident.
Plus there isn't much ringtones to choose from. Not even normal phone rings if you wanted that.
The back lid that holds the battery comes off very easily.
When I received this phone, the camera didn't work properly. Sending a picture would cause the screen to turn white and it would take me back to the main phone display. Amazon is sending me a replacement phone.
The buttons on the side are very inconvenient. You can accidentally press the power button, which can turn the phone off, on, or put it in different modes depending on how many times you press the button. I had my phone in silent mode in a movie theater, but the button was pressed while in my pocket and it turned the sound on. Very embarrassing.
The camera button is also on the side and can be pressed accidentally, turning the camera on, which in turns drains the battery. I don't use my phone a lot, but the charge only lasts about a day and half.
Now I don't know much about SIM cards. I wanted to store my contacts on the SIM card to be able to move it to another phone easily, but it only allows me to store one phone number for each person. I have multiple numbers for my contacts. I ended up storing them in my phone's memory. Since my first phone was defective, I copied my contact to the SIM card. Since the SIM card only allows one number per contact, it split up all my contacts, renaming them sequentially.
The sound quality is not great. I had 3 LG phones before this and they all sounded louder and clearer than this phone.
On the positive side, the phone looks very nice and the buttons have a great tactile touch. I can't stand Razor or Chocolate style touch keys.
As someone mentioned before, you can import MP3s, but you can't use them as ring tones. T-mobile charges 2.49 for each hi-fi ring tone.
This is a very cool phone. It has the Nokia reliability along with its traditional easy to use operating system. Its also loaded with features including a megapixel camera, expandable micro sd slot, click open flip, and also the one feature that everyone has left off so far which is the fact that you can play our mp3s over your bluetooth headset. This is a feature specific to this phone in the tmobile lineup. This is a great phone a I would recommend it to anyone.
This phone clearly beats many other hyped phones out in the market. It has all features the other phones boast of with robustness and durability of Nokia.(btw, this one takes g8 pics, best I have seen with cell phones)
Few lacking I see are:
-Inbuilt memory is barely 11MB, which far below then 60-80Mbs on other phones.
-Can't assign mp3 files to ring tones.( I usually operate with silent profile, so I am fine with it.)
-MicroSD card slot is not best positioned, little awkward slot cap.
Just got this phone -- it's great but for one thing. T-mobile has pulled a Verizon and intentionally disabled setting MP3s for your ringtone.
I was on the phone with their support for about an hour, going from entry level support, transferred to Nokia support, who, after about 20 minutes discovered that the message it displays "Not allowed by activation key" means that the carrier disabled that functionality. Then called back T-mobile and went from entry level support to second level support to tech support, each person saying surely it's a mistake, until the tech support people looked it up and said no, they intentionally disabled it so that you'll buy their HiFi ringtones.
Very stupid. But the phone still gets 4 stars, because it's not really the phone's fault that T-mobile is turning into a customer unfriendly company.
